DESCRIPTION: The City of Monterey is seeking a Sports Center Manager responsible for overseeing the Monterey Sports Center, a 72,000-square-foot recreation facility located in downtown Monterey. The Sports Center houses two (2) indoor pools, men's and women's saunas, a sun deck, sports cafe and pro shop, a three-court gym, cardio and weight training rooms, as well as two large exercise studios. Between two and three thousand guests come through the doors every day for over 120 weekly group fitness classes, physical therapy sessions, personal training, sports and recreation camps and leagues, and drop-in child care, all in a premier fitness facility. These programs are provided by a staff of 200 employees through a budget of $4.9 million. Primary responsibilities include implementing a comprehensive marketing and membership strategy; staff hiring, training and supervision; scheduling facility usage; ensuring the fiscal health of the Sports Center; and overseeing long range planning and potential future expansion of the facility and its programs. The Sports Center Manager is expected to build and maintain strong relationships with the community in order to develop and sustain programs that meet the needs of a diverse membership and community.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Five years of progressive experience in a recreational complex, with demonstrated experience in managing a large Recreation center, including scheduling, coordination of maintenance, custodial programs, and control area; budget preparation, monitoring, and administration; administrative operations, administer a systematic and formal drop-in program, administer an organized recreation planned program.
Education: Equivalent to a degree in Parks and Recreation Administration. _______________________________________________________________
