The Hoffman Estates Park District (HE Parks) was founded in 1964 and for more than 50 years has remained committed to our mission.
HE Parks employs 75 full-time employees, 50 permanent part-time employees and 600 seasonal part-time employees. Facilities operated by HE Parks include two community centers, three fitness centers including a 100,000 sq. ft. premier health and wellness center, two NHL size ice skating rinks, an 18 hole championship golf course with a 53 station lighted learning center, a pro shop and banquet facility, a 1,300 bather load aquatic center with four water slides, a gymnastics center, a senior center and a teen center. All facility memberships combined total over 7,400 annually. Recreation programs are attended by over 23,000 participants annually. Special recreation programs and services are provided through the Northwest Special Recreation Association where HE Parks is one of 17 member park districts. Scholarships to enable financially disadvantaged families to participate in our programs and facilities are made available through Friends of HE Parks Foundation, which was founded in 2000. The park district’s ability to provide first class parks, facilities, programs and services is supported by sound financial planning as evidenced by the park district’s Bond Rating of AA+ (S&P) and the district receiving the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award of Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Intergovernmental relationships thrive with our local units of government including the Village of Hoffman Estates, school and library districts, and townships. Strong cooperative relationships exist with our 35+ community partners such as the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce, the Schaumburg Business Association, AMITA Health System, and the Hoffman Estates Athletic Association. On the regional level, the park district serves as the home practice facility of the Chicago Wolves, an NHL minor league franchise, and the Windy City Bulls, an NBA developmental team of the Chicago Bulls.
HE Parks is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). It is also recognized as a Distinguished Illinois Park and Recreation Agency by the Illinois Association of Park Districts/Illinois Park & Recreation Association. In 2009 we received the National Gold Medal award for excellence in park and recreation management by the National Recreation and Park Association. HE Parks was among the first in Illinois to earn all three of these top honors.
