Recreational facilities include, 13 parks totaling 293 acres of recreation and open space and a 12,000 sq. recreational center with renovations still in progress to provide program space, facility rentals and administration offices.
This fall a $500,000 park improvement was completed with a $216,000 OSLAD grant award in 2014. The district acquired an 80 acre parcel this summer that currently provides 17 acres of improved athletic fields with potential for a future outdoor sports complex. Staff is currently conducting focus groups with planning assistance that coincides with traditional community surveys to support a complex vision.
The economic condition of the district continues to be strong as evidenced by continued growth, reflected in the districts solid bond rating of AA-. The board of commissioners ensures a sound financial environment in which to conduct operations. A fund balance policy was recently established with a restrictive fund balance for general and recreation which is 25% of the annual budgeted expenditures. The district just applied for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) and are confident to be awarded.
