The Senior Recreation Specialist leads a team providing great programs to older adults and residents of all ages at Chesterfield County’s Stonebridge Senior/Community Center. Plans, implements, and evaluates year-round recreation programs, activities and special events; Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of part-time staff, volunteers, contractual and other staff. Recruits and provides direction to contract instructors ensuring providers meet standards and certifications. Develops and implements strategies to promote public awareness of the Stonebridge Senior/Community Center to include flyers, news releases, schedules and brochures. Monitors and evaluate programs. Schedules building maintenance and rentals. Prepares a variety of written reports. Perform other work as required.
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, teaching, physical education or related field; two years of progressively responsible experience in recreation or community service program planning; experience providing recreation programs for older adults; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of objectives and principles of public recreation program planning; ability to plan, organize and lead recreation activities; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a computer and related software; to interact with a variety of people with diverse backgrounds and varying ages; to supervise staff. Must be willing to work outside of normal work hours, which may include evenings and weekends. Good driving required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
