The University of New Mexico Foundation at the University of New Mexico, an NCAA Division I institution and Mountain West Conference member, is now accepting applications for the position of Associate Director of Development – Special Events.
The UNM Lobo Club is the fundraising arm of UNM Athletics. Its principle mission is to raise funds for student-athlete scholarships and support their academic and athletic endeavors. The Lobo Club consists of 2,500 donors and raised $14.7 million for the 2016-2017 academic year.
The primary function of this position is to coordinate and execute fundraising, stewardship, and cultivation events for the UNM Lobo Club. The secondary function will be to oversee and manage the Hotel Gift-in-Kind (GIK) efforts that will supplement the Lobo Club’s overall annual GIK campaign. The third function is to assist with Lobo Club communication efforts to our donor base and the public. The following is a detailed outline of responsibilities, as well as other duties as assigned.
Event Planning and Production: •Lead and manage all fundraising, stewardship, and cultivation events from start to finish including but not limited to, negotiating event contracts, booking event space, and working with a variety of vendors for food/beverage, event supplies, décor, signage, etc., to meet the quality expectations of the Lobo Club. (List of events, attachment A) •Provide periodic progress reports to Executive Director and to the Lobo Club Board of Directors for each event project. •Effectively manage an event budget for all Lobo Club events and reconcile all finances for events within a timely manner after event completion. •Oversee and maintain communication with staff regarding payment requests, invoicing, and reporting for event related finances. •Conduct research, make site visits, and find resources to help staff make decisions about events and propose new events that could be implemented. •Serve as the main contact and liaison with vendors on event-related matters. •Generate targeted revenue for all fundraising events. •Oversee and manage volunteer event committees (assign tasks, coordinate meetings, etc.) and find and manage outside volunteers to assist with event production and execution.
Hotel Gift-in-Kind: •Responsible for the solicitation, cultivation and overall management of new and current hotel GIK partners annually (March-May), 24 current hotel partners, and over 2,400 rooms. •Liaison between current properties and the athletic department (administrators, coaches, Lobo Club staff). •Work with coaches and administration for booking rooms for games, game contracts, official visits and a variety of other events and activities.
Communications • Assist with the communication efforts of the UNM Lobo Club, including but not limited to, email campaigns, marketing, basic website maintenance, and social media.
Other duties of the job include: •Assist in Annual Fund duties as needed including but not limited to, Lobo Club membership renewals (pledges and payments), purchasing of tickets, season parking for Football, MBB & WBB, etc. •Build relationships with current and prospective donors by participating in the support of fundraising activities and events by various organizations for the benefit of the UNM Foundation and UNM Athletics. •Working some nights and some weekends for Lobo Club events and game day management.
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience required;
One year of related experience.
Must be able to drive personal vehicle for University and Foundation business (mileage reimbursed) and hold a valid driver’s license with current insurance, and a clean driving record. In order to develop private financial support for the University of New Me...xico, the University's Board of Regents established the UNM Foundation Inc. in 1979, in the form of a separately legal incorporated nonprofit corporation.
The Foundation began operations in the spring of 1980 conducting all of its operations through a University department, Office of Institutional Advancement. At that time, University units hired development professionals and limited staff to provide direct fund raising and other support to programmatic initiatives for philanthropy. Since its creation and in accordance with University policy, all private gifts are received through the Foundation, which has the responsibility for managing contributions to all University programs.
