Recreation District #1/Pelican Park is an award winning Recreation District located in Mandeville, La and is seeking a Recreation Supervisor to join their team. The District operates Pelican Park which is one of the finest youth sports facilities in the south. Come join a dynamic high energy team that focuses on quality work, public service and ethics.
Recreation District #1's/ Pelican Park Recreation Division consists of 6 full time employees and various part-time employees. There are 4 full time Recreation Supervisors work primarily day hours, however they do work some nights and weekend work. There are also two full time facility staff that oversee the Park during evenings and weekends.
The Recreation Supervisors together are responsible for all aspects of the recreation division to include youth sports, adult sports, leisure programming, nature programming, disc golf course, commercial batting cages, skate park, 2 dog parks, coaches background checks, advisory boards, supervision and training of part time staff, daily activity book, official’s liaison, contract and bidding work, on-line registration, sand volleyball courts, tournaments for the District, facility rentals, liaison to soccer club, special events and much more.
Applicants must have a strong knowledge of sports as our main focus is recreation level youth sports. Work involves offering, coordinating, supervising and handle all aspects of youth sport programming for over 5,000 children in 10 sports/seasons. This includes promoting the sports, on-line registration, working with sport advisory boards, ordering and tracking equipment & team uniforms, player evaluations, team formation, scheduling and monitoring youth sports, working with coaches, parents and even discipline action when needed.
Leisure programming works includes setting up both free and fee based classes. Promotion, tracking, engaging volunteer instructors (who are paid a stipend for teaching), registration. The District offers over 60 leisure programs a month.

MINIMUM SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Recreation Supervisors are responsible for all aspects of youth sports, adult sports, leisure activities, fitness classes, leisure classes and special events needed to meet the needs of the residents of Recreation District #1. They also handle programming and management of facilities such as disc golf, skate park, dog park and other revenue and non-revenue facilities. Presently there are 4 Recreation Supervisor who handle these duties.
Prefer certification by NRPA
Prefer degree in Recreation and Park Administration or related field with a minimum of 2-3 years experience
High school education with extensive work history with people and organization.
Ability to communicate well with people
Knowledge of leisure activities
Extensive knowledge of sports
Knowledge of special events
Good writing skills
Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize work so that tasks are completed in time
Ability to handle multiple tasks
Ability to speak before groups of individuals
Must undergo a pre-employment physical & drug test.
Subject to random drug testing during 60 day probationary period.
Ability to work both inside and outside in all types of weather.
Ability to be physically active walking, running or stand for up to two hours at a time. Able to transverse uneven surfaces. Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Able to set up and handle equipment such as tables and chairs, PA systems etc. Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, squat, push, pull, lift, carry and hold large or heavy items. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Qualified applicants for this position will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Park and Recreation; philosophy and objectives of public recreation; knowledge of programming, special events and sports: knowledge of budget preparation and writing; computer skills; knowledge of on-line registration programs; experience in dealing with the public; ability to work within a team format; multi-tasking skills; ability to work under pressure.

Employees are part of the State's PERS retirement plan and do not participate in Social Security
Salary is earned hourly. Position can earn overtime. Our scale is based upon a 10 step system, with step 1 being $37,064.92
to step 10 $51, 339.00. Steps are given yearly for merit.
Recreation District #1 of St. Tammany Parish is a free standing governmental agency. The District is serves a population of about 60,000 residents and owns and operates Pelican Park a 230 acre top of line sports complex. Pelican Park has 33 athletic fields, 7 indoor basketball/volleyball courts, 2 dog parks, skate park, commercial batting cages and a 46,000 square foot events center call the Casti...ne Center. The District is located 24 miles north of New Orleans in a area known as the greater Mandeville area. The community is an upper middle class community that is known for it's quality of life, safe neighborhoods, good schools and recreation. The District has 38 full time employees and over 50 part time employees. The Recreation District is celebrating their 28th anniversary this year. The Recreation District is supported by property tax (apx 80%) and the balance is self generated funding. The District operates on a $4 million dollar budget which has increased each year.
