The City of Warrensburg, Missouri, Parks and Recreation Board is seeking a Parks and Recreation Director. This position offers an exciting career opportunity managing eleven park properties that occupy 401.7 acres of land. Current projects include an inclusive playground, replacement of 4 HVAC Systems in the Community Center and working on implementing Comprehensive Master Plan for the Parks and Recreation System.
The City of Warrensburg (population 18,838) is located 45 minutes east of Kansas City, and is a rapidly developing community with tremendous growth potential. Warrensburg is home to the University of Central Missouri and is located near both Whiteman Air Force Base, home of the B-2 Bomber, and the Lake of the Ozarks.
We are looking for a professional Director of Parks and Recreation. This position reports directly to the Administrative Parks and Recreation Board and is responsible for the administration of planning, implementing and directing the City’s comprehensive Parks and Recreation facilities, programs, activities, and staff.
The Warrensburg Parks and Recreation Department has 11 full-time employees and over 100 seasonal employees working in the department. The Warrensburg Parks and Recreation Board acts as an Administrative Board to the City and carries out the spirit and intent of parks and recreation in establishing and maintaining public parks.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or closely related field; and five years or more experience in Parks and Recreation. A Master’s degree is preferred; a Certification in Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is desired.
A thorough knowledge of public parks and recreation administration, including principles of organization, accounting, budget preparation, and staff supervision. Excellent leadership, and management skills are required; as well as outstanding communication skills that allow for research and oral presentations and written reports. A strong commitment to creative problem-solving through teamwork, and customer service, is expected.

Warensburg Parks and Recreation is located in Warrensburg Missouri. The Department maintains 11 parks, 53,000 sq ft Community Center with gym, indoor pool and fitness center, water park, skate park and 400 acres of land. WPR has 11 full time employees and over 100 part-time employees.
