The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a new Parks and Recreation Director. This position offers an exciting career opportunity managing one of the largest park and recreations systems in Iowa. The Department has received national attention for sustainability initiatives and recreational programming.
The Parks and Recreation Department is broken down into four divisions: Recreation; Parks; Golf; and Forestry. Seventy-eight regular employees and over 300 seasonal employees work in the department. The Cedar Rapids Parks, Waterways & Recreation Commission acts as an advisory commission to the City and makes recommendations for the enhancement and promotion of parks and recreation activities, facilities and programs. The Parks and Recreation Director is one of eight directors that report to the City Manager.
Located in east central Iowa along the banks of the Cedar River, the river has played major role in the composition of Cedar Rapids from the very beginning. Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa with a population of 128,000 residents and the population of the metropolitan area over 260,000. The City ranked among the top ten Best Affordable Places to live the past two years.
Starting salary will be market competitive, DOQ/E, plus excellent fringe benefit package and reasonable relocation expenses provided.

The position requires a BS/BA in recreation or park management or related field with an MS/MA preferred. Extensive experience in Parks and Recreation administration and management, National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA) recognized certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred.
