Department: Parks and Recreation/Recreation Services
Location: 2728 Lake Worth Road, Lake Worth
Hours: Variable hours/week, including evenings, weekends and holidays
Other: Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Valid Florida Driver’s License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment. Must pass a Level 2 background check prior to appointment.
Responsible administrative, supervisory and facility maintenance work managing and overseeing the operation of multi-purpose or large Therapeutic Recreation programs/facilities in a district or regional park. Supervises, trains and evaluates facility/program staff, lifeguards, contractual instructors/coaches and volunteers; ensures program consistency; liaises with other divisions/sections within the Parks and Recreation Department. Plans/supervises the work of a large staff, prepares/monitors a large budget, ensuring quality recreation programs/services/facilities/events and that the stated goals/objectives are achieved within the limits of allocated resources. Work is performed with considerable independence within the scope of departmental rules, regulations and program guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services or related; minimum of three (3) years of responsible experience in planning and directing recreation activities and/or managing public recreation facilities that includes two (2) years of related supervisory experience.Equivalency: Unrelated Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of related experience including two (2) years of related supervisory experience.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must complete First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training AND obtain the American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard AND ARC Lifeguard Instructor license/nationally recognized equivalent within six (6) months of hire. Must obtain theARC Water Safety Instructor (WSI)/nationally recognized equivalent AND Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications within one (1) year of hire.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Working with people with disabilities; operating aquatic programs/facilities. Also desirable: Related Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation; experience; Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), WSI/AFO Certified, ARC Lifeguard/Lifeguard Instructor licensed/nationally recognized equivalent (copy of Certificates/License must be received in PBC HR by 5:00 P.M. on the closing date 8-18-17).
