The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Youth Athletics Recreation Assistant. Responsibilities include assisting the Youth Athletics Supervisor. Major duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
•Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with planning, organizing and coordinating all youth athletic programs, weekend tournaments and special events.
•Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with training and supervising officials and scorekeepers for athletic programs.
•Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with scheduling the use of athletic facilities for outside groups.
•Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with requisitions, reimbursements for maintenance expenses and purchasing all supplies and equipment for youth athletic programs.
•Assists the Youth Athletic Supervisor with addressing inquiries regarding athletic programs by telephone, email and social media.
•Performs other related duties as assigned. This position works both traditional and untraditional hours to include some weekends and nights. Hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority.
The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. She/He must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. The position requires a smart, dynamic, resourceful, reliable, highly motivated, self-starter who is pro-active, able to develop new protocols and procedures, and respond to unexpected challenges, oftentimes with limited outside guidance. The successful candidate will, at all times, maintain a keen awareness of the professional environment and ensure that all staff feel that they are working in a positive workplace and being treated in a fair, respectful and supportive manner by their colleagues and management. In order to succeed, the Athletics Assistant is expected to fully engage with visitors and staff and assume a personal sense of ownership and pride in Athletic operations.
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, Parks and Recreation/ Tourism Management, or related field supplemented by 1-2 years of responsible experience in recreation programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports such as softball, baseball, basketball, soccer and football is a must. Skill in planning and coordinating large groups of people in order to insure the availability of facilities, supplies and volunteers for athletic events.
