The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination, scheduling, and implementation of specialized recreation programs and facilities for youth/teens, adults, seniors and families in the areas of sports, fitness, wellness, camps, aquatics, outdoor adventure, education, special events, facility rentals and/or other specialized interest areas. The successful applicant should have a general understanding of department and functional operations and must be able to work with considerable initiative. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent. The successful applicant will have frequent interaction with staff, co-workers and customers to provide general procedures and respond to technical questions.
Essential duties and responsibilities include: development, coordination, scheduling and implementation of recreation programs and special events; compile and maintain program reports, supervise and train employees; coordinate safety training for recreation programs and facility staff; will assist in the aquatic operations, and will participate and assist with the Recreation Division’s annual budget preparation.
Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., work schedule could vary based on operational needs.
Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, physical education, leisure services or a related field
Two years of recreation program experience OR any equivalent combination of education, training, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities which would allow an individual to perform the duties of this position
Valid Montana driver’s license
Desirable Qualifications or the Ability and Interest to Attain:
Designation as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
Designation as a Certified Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) and/or a Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO)
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) from the State of Montana
