The Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) provides Parks and Recreation Services to Elk Grove and its surrounding rural areas, along with Fire & Emergency Medical services to the cities of Elk Grove and Galt serving a diverse population in excess of 185,000. An independent California Special District, the CSD is a separate local government with a five-member elected governing board.
The Administrator of Parks and Recreation is an at-will position reporting to the General Manager and serves as the principal leader and administrator of the Parks and Recreation Department. The Department is organized over five divisions: Administration, Park Planning, Recreation, Community Services, and Park Operations. Department resources include 73 full-time and approximately 92 full-time equivalents with a budget of $40 million. CSD assets include 94 parks; numerous recreation programs; preschool, elementary and teen programming; and a 9-hole golf course. The Department maintains over 1,000 acres of parks, corridors, and trails and also maintains irrigation systems, playgrounds, pools and spray grounds.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and enthusiastic professional with a passion for providing outstanding parks and recreation programs, services and amenities for the community, and who will embrace the collegial atmosphere and spirit of teamwork that is the core of the District’s management culture. A Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, recreation administration or a related field is required, along with eight years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal parks and recreation work including four years of administrative and management responsibility. A Master’s degree, CPRP or CPRE are desirable.
